end of spearLast Friday was the 60th anniversary of the killing of five American missionaries, including MAF pilot, Nate Saint. At the time, they had been camped in Ecuador near a tribe of Auca Indians who later converted to Christianity through the continued efforts of the families left behind.

A documentary, "Through Gates of Splendor" (taken from the title of Elisabeth Elliot's book of the event), came out in 2005, followed by the feature film, "End of the Spear".  The latter, in DVD form, is available for borrowing from Sandra Hickling, via Pastor Tim.

Zaatri Refugee CampTonight (Monday, January 11) another meeting is being convened at 7:00pm at Westside Bible Church to once again consider the possibility of volunteers from Westshore churches joining together to sponsor and assist Syrian refugees in resettling in the Westshore area.

Five people are required to be the official signatories who will take moral and legal responsibility for the effort to sponsor a family for one year.  We currently have 2 people who are willing to take on this role.

If you are interested in learning more about or participating in such an endeavour we look forward to seeing you there.

If we fall short of the 5 people required to officially form a group, we will use this gathering to help direct participants to other local groups involved in refugee sponsorship in the greater Victoria area.

christmas lightup 2015 wspr signTomorrow night is Colwood's Christmas Lightup. This is a very popular event in our community which brings a lot of vehicle traffic to our parking lot as people and families head down to nearby city hall for the fun, free food, and festivities there.

We are looking for volunteers to assist in directing people to a parking spot, finding their way out of the parking lot afterwards, and especially greeting people passing through and giving them an invitation to our Christmas Eve Candlelight service.

If you are available and willing to volunteer please let pastor Tim know as soon as possible (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
