Five months ago, God worked in such a way as to get us on the same page and the same path toward living within our means. At the same time we began to pay off our line of credit, chequing overdraft, and a loan from a family member - $28,000 of consumer debt all totaled together. In 5 months we have reduced that amount by close to %25. How did we do it?

We did not join a multi-level marketing scheme and immediately sign up a bunch of dupes under us. Neither did we send "seed" money to a TV preacher and get a big cheque from God days later. What we did was follow the relationship and financial counsel of Gail Vaz-Oxlade, host of the television show "Til Debt Do Us Part." We can only begin to tell you the difference this has meant in our lives and in our life.

If you are struggling with some degree of financial debt in your life you are invited to our home tomorrow (Sunday) night at 7:30pm to hear more - not just about how things are better for us but about how they can be better for you. We hope you will join us. If you have any questions about the evening, or how to get to our house, please contact us.

- Pastor Tim

PS - Here's the answer to a few common questions about tomorrow night.

Q - If I attend will I have to tell everyone how much debt I have?

A - No, nobody has to say anything they don't want to.

Q - Is this for couples only?
A - No, this is for anyone who feels they need it.

Q - What do you mean by consumer debt?
A - Consumer debt is debt used to fund consumption rather than investment. It is money owed on things we no longer have or things we have that no longer have the value we owe on them.

Q - What are some signs I really need to be bothered about my debt?
A - Here are some indicators of debt that is out of control:
  • Your chequing account is always in overdraft.
  • You don't pay off your credit card each month.
  • You've consolidated all your debt to take some pressure off yourself only to rack up even more.
  • Collection agencies keep calling your house.
  • You don't give God what your heart tells you you should.
  • You fight regularly about money.
  • Thinking of money affects your sleep.
  • You are hoping your spouse doesn't hear about the get together tomorrow night
  • You spend money today because you are counting on an inheritance/win fall down the road.
  • You finance your vehicle insurance through ICBC.
  • Your utility bills often have late payment fees on them.
  • You are afraid you won't be able to pay for the repair of the next thing that breaks.
  • Just considering the above creates an inner drawing to make changes in the way you do money.
