Rainbows (www.rainbows.ca) is an effective peer support program for children who live in single-parent families, step-families, or families in painful transition. The program provides an opportunity for participants to meet new friends who have shared similar experiences. There are trained caring adults who help the children while they sort through and understand their grief. Rainbows helps the children come to a healthy acceptance of what has happened to their family. There is also a group for the parents to attend. Rainbows was started in 1980 by Suzy Yehl out of a need in her own family. Over ½ million children have participated in the program. Rainbows is offered in over 12 countries around the world. New registrations are now being accepted for this fall's program in the Colwood and Langford area. It is going to be held at Westside on Thursday nights. If you are interested in volunteering to help this program (training is this Saturday) or if you know of a family that could benefit from the Rainbows program, Call Claire at 250-474-7591 for more information. ![]() |
